This is a very caring school where staff and students feel highly valued. This ethos is largely responsible for the good behaviour and the strong relationships that exist between staff and students in the school. One student captured the views of many in stating that, 'Teachers are always prepared to go the extra mile in order to help us.'

Tamworth Enterprise College is an 11-16 Academy sponsored by the AET which provides an excellent educational service for its local community. Student's prior attainment covers the entire ability range and high levels of aspiration are encouraged to ensure all students achieve at and beyond their potential. We are a forward thinking school which works extremely hard to provide the best opportunities for teaching and learning which have been recognised by inspectors as being of a good standard. The welfare of staff and students is paramount and the stability and cohesiveness of the staff supports the notion that Tamworth Enterprise College puts people first.

Catchment Area:

The catchment area draws from the Belgrave, Glascote and Stoneydelph wards located in the southern part of the town close to the M42. Over the years, Tamworth has grown and developed into a thriving town attracting, many big names in the retail and leisure industry and consequently, road, rail and leisure facilities in the town are excellent.

The college has excellent links with feeder schools and is acknowledged for its specialism in Science and Mathematics.

Staffing Structure

With regard to teaching staff, there are seven Heads of Faculty: Design and Technology, ICT, Science, English, MFL, Mathematics and Physical Education. There are separate Heads of Art, Performing Arts, Music, Special Educational Needs, History/Geography and RE/Psychology. Senior staff link with each area and meet on a fortnightly basis with heads of the Faculty/Department.

There are seven members of administrative staff led by the Office Manager, Mrs Tracy Weston as well as a school Bursar, Mrs Tina Goulborn. Mr Terry Boden is the Finance officer who also oversees Examinations and is the ITT coordinator. There are three members of caretaking staff with Mr Steve Green as Senior Site Supervisor.

Technician Support staff work in Information Technology, Design and Technology, Science, Library Resources and Special Educational Needs, and there are three ICT Technicians to support staff across the school.

Cleaning, catering and grounds staff are bought in on a subscription basis. Contracts are currently held by Staffordshire County Council.

There is a strong emphasis on staff development. All NQT's and student teachers are given structured support led by a senior member of staff to ensure that a high quality programme of induction is delivered. Opportunities for non teaching staff to meet to discuss their work are a feature. Teaching staff meet in a number of groups: Faculty and House teams, Heads of Faculty/Department and Heads of House. Senior staff meet weekly.

Our key priority is to raise standards of students’ attainment through developments in teaching and learning. On average, students entering Year Seven have below national average scores at Key Stage Two. We are now consistently showing clear added value both at Key Stage Three and GCSE and this year the school was ranked well within Staffordshire for CVA figure from Key Stage Two to Key Stage Four. All subject areas are focussed on improving Learning and teaching and this is supported by the school’s investment in ICT infrastructure such as Interactive Whiteboards and a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

Student Care

A priority is given to fostering positive relationships and respect among all members of the school community. The vertical tutor group system which has been praised by OFSTED and all stakeholders mean that group tutors stay with tutor groups throughout a student’s life at the college. A good deal of time is spent on planning personal, social and health education, taught in different subject areas. A wide programme of extra curricular activities and visits is also a prominent feature.

The work of the Special Educational Needs Department is recognised as being of a high standard. We have achieved “Full Dyslexia Friendly Status” recognition and are now applying for “Enhanced Status” in this area.

Curricular Structure

The school operates a 30 period week, each period being 50 minutes in length. At KS4 significant improvements have been made by providing more choice. The options programme ensures that students get the best choice possible to enable them to successfully progress beyond KS4 in their chosen career pathways.

Extra Curricular Activities

The school offers a full programme of extra curricular opportunities across a wide range of activities which make use of our excellent facilities. All students are encouraged to participate and many staff choose to engage in running clubs in areas of their own interest.
